The Buffalo Bills found a great contribution to their offense in a place that they would not have expected coming into the game. While this Buffalo Bills team has leaned heavily on the run game in recent weeks, everyone knew that it was only a matter of time before the big play ability of Josh Allen would show up again.
Looking to make a push for the playoffs, it is good to know that the Buffalo Bills will now be able to control the game through the run game, and bleed out the clock if needed. But watching a connection between Josh Allen and a wide receiver who has been hot and cold look good during the first half of the game against the Los Angeles Chargers is an encouraging sign.
Buffalo Bills Receiver Compared to Deebo Samuel
The Buffalo Bills were losing by ten early in their game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Gabe Davis came up with plays in the passing game after a couple of weeks of not even having a reception. His first half performance was so notable that it prompted Chris Collinsworth to compare his skillset to that of the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, Deebo Samuel.
You can see what he meant, and why he made this comparison on air. The both are good route runners, and have big play potential on every down, and in the biggest moments. The difference being consistency. Every week Deebo Samuel has a big role in a star studded San Francisco 49ers offense, even on the occasions that he is not targeted 10+ times. Gabe Davis has faded as of late.
Outside of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Gabe Davis has not a game with over 60 yards receiving since the month of November started. In some games having minimal impact, or even 0 yards receiving.
This is why his performance today against the Los Angeles Chargers has been a much needed sign, not only for the Buffalo Bills, but for Gabe Davis and his confidence.
Buffalo Bills Receptions Against the Los Angeles Chargers
Gabe Davis had three beautiful catches that showed the big play potential of this Buffalo Bills team. In the first half alone, Gabe Davis had three completions for 94 yards and a touchdown. And it really could not have happened at a better time.
While the Buffalo Bills offense looked stalled, Josh Allen showed his continued trust in Gabe Davis, and they were able to connect for explosive downfield plays. Not only was the touchdown reception a great throw and catch that few duos in this league could match, but it didn’t end there.
Shortly into the second half, Gabe Davis got loose again for a 36 yard gain to set up a first and goal deep inside Los Angeles Chargers territory.
If the Buffalo Bills are going to make the playoffs, and then make some noise once in, Gabe Davis will need to continue to be a big part of this offense. You can almost hear Tony Romo saying, “Big Game Gabe”!
