On Saturday night, the Buffalo Bills will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in a critical Week 16 matchup. Right now, the Chargers are hanging on to playoff hopes by a thread. However, the Bills are looking to continue their winning streak.
This game will be broadcast exclusively on NBC’s Peacock streaming service. However, the NFL and NBC announced something historical will take place during this broadcast. Find out what that is below.
Commercial-Free Fourth Quarter
According to Ari Meirov, there will be no commercials during the fourth quarter of this NFL broadcast. It will mark the first time that any quarter of an NFL broadcast will be commercial-free. Considering you have to have a subscription to this streaming service to even watch the game, it can be a good sign that the NFL is rewarding fans who went the extra mile.
Just how much extra game-related content does this add up to? It is estimated to add at least 12 additional minutes of game-related content. Plus, it could mean up to a 40% reduction of ad time for this NFL game.
On top of this, the NFL plans to have a playoff game this season broadcasted exclusively on Peacock. The exact game is yet to be determined but it will take place in the wild card round.
Buffalo Bills Are Strong Favorites
For those who do not have Peacock, they may not feel like they are missing much. Why is this the case? The Buffalo Bills are 12-point road favorites in this game. That makes them one of the biggest favorites in Week 16.
There are two factors that play into this. First, the Bills are on a hot streak. They have won their last two games against teams with a combined record of 19-9. The Bills narrowly defeated the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 14 on the road. Then, they blew out the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 31-10 in Week 15.
As for the Chargers, things could not be going worse for them. Last week, they had a humiliating 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Because of this, Chargers owner Dean Spanos decided to fire their head coach and general manager immediately after the game.
On top of this, the Chargers do not have starting QB Justin Herbert due to a fractured right index finger. As a result, QB Easton Stick has tried to fill those shoes the best he can. It is safe to say that there is a wide gap between the two quarterbacks.
