The Buffalo Bills have been a team that many expected to be pushing for the number one seed this season. Sadly, the team has not fulfilled its potential and is currently sitting at three games below the division leading Miami Dolphins at an even record of 6-6. This poor season has already cost former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey his job as the Bills have ridden through the season solely on the back of quarterback Josh Allen. Some players have vented their frustrations as the season has progressed and the Bills season has failed to improve.
Buffalo Bills player unhappy about low snap count
It is common for teams to go out and bring in talent throughout the season as they compete for a playoff push. What isn’t common is for those players to quickly turn around and voice their displeasure with the organization. On Tuesday afternoon, former LSU Tiger and first round pick Leonard Fournette expressed his concerns about the direction that the Bills season is heading.
“I’m comfortable, up to speed,” Fournette said to Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News. “I’m ready, man. Just waiting on my opportunity. Of course, my first time really being in this position, so you know, I have my days. I think it’s humbling me, testing me, my faith and everything, but I’m getting better.”
Buffalo Bills’ running back situation
The Bills have currently put together quite a committee of running backs chaired by James Cook with Latavius Murray in tow. Part of the issue is that the Bills have transitioned to essentially what the Green Bay Packers used to run under Aaron Rodgers due to the playmaking ability of superstar quarterback Josh Allen. Fournette was picked up on waivers in late October and has yet to make an appearance for the Bills.
Fournette last played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season when he played in 16 games and nd rushed for 668 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 3.5 yards per carry. He also hauled in 73 receptions for 523 yards and three touchdowns. The 28-year-old running back starred at LSU and was selected with the fourth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
After having a tremendous rookie season when he ran for over a thousand yards, Fournette never put together as successful of a season and was ultimately released. Even with all of the physical talent that Fournette has, he hasn’t been able to replicate his tremendous rookie season after 2017 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Buffalo Bills’ Prospects
The Bills could definitely use an infusion of talent at the running back position after the offense has stagnated this season under Ken Dorsey. Dorsey was ultimately fired following a disappointing run of form leading to the current playoff predicament. The Bills are still technically one game out of a wild card slot and still pass on the impression that the offense can click at any moment with the talented Josh Allen at the helm.
The Bills next game will be a rematch of the 2021 AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have a firm hold of the AFC West and will be attempting to work toward a first round bye into the playoffs.
