Robert Saleh and the New York Jets have a plan in place in case Zach Wilson is unable to be healthy in time for their Week 16 game against the Washington Commanders.
For those not in the know, Wilson suffered a concussion during their Week 15 shutout loss to the Miami Dolphins. The Jets quarterback left the game late in the second quarter, with reports initially stating it’s because of a hydration issue.
Later on, however, it was confirmed that Wilson had a head injury. On Monday, Saleh told reporters that their quarterback is in the concussion protocol. Wilson will start if he’s able to clear the protocol before Sunday’s showdown with the Commanders, but if not, New York will rely on Trevor Siemian to handle the quarterbacking duties, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
Considering that the New York Jets are already out of playoff contention, it doesn’t really matter anymore who they have at quarterback come Week 15. Perhaps the team is hoping for a respectable finish and end things on a positive note, but at the end of the day, it was an utter disappointment of a season for the Jets.
Hopes are high that Zach Wilson will be able to recover in time and get some much-needed repetitions as QB1 as New York looks to build more for the upcoming season. Nonetheless, it’s not bad as well if Trevor Siemian ends up playing.
Don’t Expect Aaron Rodgers To Start for New York Jets if Zach Wilson Is Out
With Zach Wilson potentially getting sidelined in Week 16 due to concussion, many might be wondering why the New York Jets are not considering on playing Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers has been cleared to practice and is expected to be medically cleared to play as well. With that being said, it might be the perfect time to get him some playing time under his legs after sustaining an injury in Week 1.
However, with their season basically over, there’s really no benefit for the Jets to risk their starting quarterback. An earlier report mentioned that it’s the current thinking of the top New York brass.
“I’ve talked to several very high-ranking members of the Jets organization who do not want Aaron Rodgers on the field unless they absolutely really have to,” Ian Rapoport said on From The Insiders.
“Right, like if there’s nothing to play for, which is right now, they’re not in the playoffs. They don’t want him on the field. They don’t want to risk 2024. They don’t want to risk a re-tear, none of that.”
Considering the situation, Jets fans will have to wait until 2024 to see Rodgers back in action.
