Tyreek Hill couldn’t be any happier for his Miami Dolphins after the team destroyed the New York Jets on Sunday in their Week 15 showdown.
Hill was absent from the game due the ankle injury he sustained during their Week 14 game against the Tennessee Titans. While he was able to return in the said game, he just wasn’t at 100 percent health and couldn’t move as he normally would. While he joined the pregame warmups against the Jets and checked if he could play, the team eventually made the decision to simply rest him.
Despite not having their most dangerous weapon in Hill, though, the Dolphins weren’t bothered at all. Tua Tagovailoa played one of his most efficient games of the season, completing 21 of his 24 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown without an interception.
Without Hill, Jaylen Waddle was Tagovailoa’s no. 1 target, and he delivered big time. He was a constant threat throughout, tallying eight receptions for142 yards–equaling to an insane 17.8 yards per catch. Running back Raheem Mostert was also sensational, recording two touchdowns on the ground on 15 carries and 42 yards.
After the contest, Tyreek Hill quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his excitement about the team’s performance. He wrote, “Proud of this team.”
There’s certainly a lot to be proud of from the Dolphins’ performance. The team improved their record to 10-4 on the season, putting them well in contention for the top spot in the AFC. Only the Baltimore Ravens currently have a better record than them in the conference with 11-3.
Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill-Less Miami Dolphins Shut Down Haters
The shutout of the Jets is also a massive statement win for Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins. To recall in Week 14, the quarterback and the rest of Miami were heavily criticized for their display after Tyreek Hill got injured in the first quarter.
Without Hill, the Dolphins’ offense struggled mightily. They weren’t even able to score in the almost two quarters that the dynamic wide receiver was out, raising doubts and concerns about the team’s offense.
In the showdown with the Jets, however, the Dolphins proved that they are more than a one-man show. Tagovailoa then reminded the haters what they said about the team when Hill got injured.
“Not having (Tyreek) and putting up 30 points and our defense putting up a shutout should tell you a lot about THIS TEAM,” Tagovailoa said in his postgame presser on Sunday, per Joe Schad of Palm Beach Post.
When asked about the narratives that he and the Dolphins aren’t as good without Hill, Tagovailoa added: “That’s what everyone is going to say. Everyone feels how they feel. In my opinion give Tyreek or Waddle or Mostert the MVP. I could care less. It’s not just about me. It’s a team sport. I told 10 in pregame if you can’t go we got your brother.”
Hill certainly has every reason to be happy with the way the Dolphins played. Sure, it’s against an inconsistent Jets side, but the important thing is they got the job done and dominated.
Of course it’s better for the Dolphins to have Hill playing, but at the end of the day, they proved that they have enough depth to win even when things get tough or when the injury bug bites them.
