The New England Patriots had a fitting end to their abysmal season, losing 17-3 to the New York Jets. The Patriots finished the year the exact way they have been playing all year, only scoring 3 points in the game. They clearly have had major offensive woes since Tom Brady left the team, but this year was specially bad on the offensive side of the ball.
Patriot fans however, are not too sad about the loss as this puts them at drafting 3rd in the NFL draft and they will have an opportunity to draft an incredible prospect at quarterback. There have been rumors coming out all year about Belichick’s future with the team and now finally we will see exactly how it all plays out.
Bill Belichick did not make any real comments on his future that were out of the ordinary following the brutal loss to the Jets although the feeling around the franchise is that the legendary coach will not be with the team next season. Bill will meet with owner Robert Kraft to talk about his future with the team.
New England Patriots’ Bill Belichick Comments on His Future
Following the loss Belichick was as close lipped as ever about his future and I’m sure he wants to process the brutal season before making any life changing moves and decisions about his future. When asked about his future the legendary head coach said:
“As far as the future goes, I’ll sit down with Robert as I do every year at some point at the end of the season and we’ll talk about things as we always do,” Belichick told reporters after the game. “I’m sure that’ll happen. But that’s really about all I have to say about that right now because there’s nothing else to talk about.”
It seems like the Patriots and the coach have not officially made a decision yet and that there is still more to talk about if there is a potential that he returns to the team next year. After this loss Belichick is now tied for the most regular season losses for a head coach in NFL history. Belichick continued by saying:
“I just finished the game here with the Jets, put everything I had into it and disappointed in the results.”
Belichick seems to definitely still want to coach whether it is with the Patriots or another team. When asked if this season to any of the wind out of his sails he said:
“I enjoy coaching. Like I said, it’s a disappointing season …” he said. “But no, I still, I like coaching the team, I like preparing the team, game plan, coaching on Sundays.”
Belichick is too close to the all time wins record and it would be shocking if he did not continue to coach until at least reaching that record. If this was the legendary head coaches last game for the team he will have left a mark that no coach ever has and it would be fitting if Robert Kraft put up a statue for what Belichick has been able to accomplish.
