Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has officially been scheduled for season-ending shoulder surgery. The rookie quarterback has been dealing with injuries all season long, and now will miss his rookie season. This will mean that backup quarterback Gardner Minshew will take over as the starter for the year unless the Colts go out and get another quarterback before the trade deadline. NFL insider Dov Kleiman reported this news via Twitter.

Anthony Richardson’s Injury
Richardson has been dealing with a couple of different types of injuries during his rookie season. His first injury this season was a concussion suffered in week two against the Houston Texans. He was unable to return to playing until week four. This led to his season-ending injury suffered in week five against the Tennessee Titans. Richardson suffered an AC joint sprain which has caused him to miss the remainder of the 2023 season.
The team released an official letter to the public after it was announced that the rookie quarterback would be out for the year. It reads, “After consultation with our medical staff, Anthony, and those close to him, it has been determined that he will undergo surgery to repair his injured shoulder, which will end his season. Anthony is a competitor, and we know how difficult and disappointing this is for him and our team… In the meantime, I love the fight of this team and I’m excited for the opportunity we have ahead of us. It starts this week with Cleveland.”
What the Colts do from Here
The rookie quarterback will officially finish his first year in the NFL with 577 passing yards, three touchdowns, an interception, and a quarterback rating of 87.3. Indianapolis has gotten off to a 3-3 start in 2023, placing them second overall in the AFC South only behind the Jacksonville Jaguars.
This injury is devastating for Colts fans to say the least. Richardson was having a very promising start to his rookie campaign, and now it will be cut short. Minshew will take over as the starter for the time being, at least until the team either signs another quarterback, or Richardson somehow shocks everyone and recovers in time to come back to play this season. For Additional Content
