The Hall of Fame is an elite group that only the best football players have the privilege of joining. Legendary players have donned the gold jacket, and many football players dream of having one of their own.
The 2024 Class has been decided, and it will take a while before the full list of inductees is announced to the public. However, three names have already been revealed, and all of them have shown through their careers that they are deserving of their place in Canton.
Chicago Bears’ Steve McMichael, Devin Hester, and Julius Peppers are 2024 Hall of Fame inductees
The Pro Football Hall of Fame has released three names who will be honored during this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton: return specialist Devin Hester, defensive end Julius Peppers, and defensive tackle Steve McMichael.
While all three of these inductees are deserving of their spots, one of them won’t be able to don his jacket in front of his peers, as reported by Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith:
For McMichael, it’s a bittersweet moment, as he’s finally getting Hall of Fame recognition now that he’s 66 years old, suffering from ALS and too ill to fully participate in ceremonies honoring him either at the Super Bowl this week or in Canton this summer. McMichael played defensive tackle for the Bears from 1981 to 1993 and was a major contributor to the great Monsters of the Midway defense that won Super Bowl XX after the 1985 season. For Bears fans, this will feel long overdue.
McMichaels spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Bears, with his best run of form lasting from 1985 until 1987. The two-time first-team All-Pro defensive tackle was a pest for offensive linemen at the time.
Peppers also spent time with the Bears, but he was at his most potent during his stint with the Carolina Panthers. He has nine Pro Bowls and three All-Pro mentions to his name.
Hester will forever be remembered for his glorious kickoff return touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts. While he wasn’t used much as a receiver, his effectiveness as a returner transformed special teams and how they are implemented.
