Two weeks ago, the Carolina Panthers gave up their best offensive weapon, wide receiver DJ Moore, in a trade to acquire the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. Since then, general manager Scott Fitterer and new head coach Frank Reich have brought in a slew of pass-catchers to surround their new franchise quarterback.  The rookie QB, who is likely to be either C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young, will be surrounded by newly signed Pro Bowl receivers Adam Thielen and DJ Chark. Carolina’s returning wideouts are a shabby-looking group featuring a 24 year-old Laviska Shenault and 22 year-old Terrace Marshall…

The Carolina Panthers made three signings on the first day of free agency at three key positions. They brought back fan-favorite center Bradley Bozeman, while signing former Bengals safety Vonn Bell and former Saints DT Shy Tuttle. Bradley Bozeman Resigning Bozeman ensures that all five starters from last season’s offensive line, a unit that ranked 10th in pass blocking grade according to Pro Football Focus, will return. Bozeman received a three-year deal worth up to $18 million. Bozeman had the highest run-blocking grade of any offensive lineman on the team (67.3), although the Panthers ranked 22nd in run blocking, according…

The Panthers only have one quarterback rostered: 2022 third-round pick Matt Corral. In other words, Carolina has zero professional snaps at the quarterback position.  General manager Scott Fitterer and newly appointed head coach Frank Reich will be looking to change that this offseason. Fitterer will now have more control over the roster after the departure of Matt Rhule and his “CEO-type” methods, said owner David Tepper.  Reich and owner David Tepper have filled the coaching staff with enormous offensive experience, players and coaches who have succeeded at a number of places and drawn respect from across the league. Among them,…

Frankie Luvu has doubled his career tackle total in 14 games this season – he’d played 56 games over four seasons. Luvu has stepped into a starting role for the first time in his career and has blown past expectations and into potential stardom. The 26-year-old has been proficient in all areas, from rushing the passer to press-man coverage and impressed the coaching staff in the process. He uses his quickness and high football IQ to anticipate blocks and get into the backfield at an elite level. As a result, he’s tied with Brian Burns for fourth in the league…

If the Panthers win their last three games, they win the NFC South at 8-9. If they beat the Buccaneers in week 17 and finish with the same record as them, Carolina wins the NFC South. With Detroit and New Orleans sandwiching the Bucs, the Panthers still control their own destiny, somehow, at 5-9.  However, the red-hot Detroit Lions, which seems like an antithetical statement, could derail their season on Saturday before their final two divisional matchups. Determined to stomp out the Panthers’ playoffs chances, and increase their own, the Lions have won six of their last seven games, including…

Steve Wilks has turned the Carolina Panthers into a disciplined football team by highlighting gritty, young playmakers on both sides. Since taking over for a Matt Rhule-led, 1-4 Panthers, Wilks has coached Carolina to a 4-4 record to put them just one game back in the NFC South. If the Panthers win their remaining four games, they’ll be headed to the wildcard. Since the long-time Panthers staffer has taken over as head coach, Carolina has committed to the run game without hesitation or apology. D’Onta Foreman is getting 20+ touches a game and Chuba Hubbard has been an electrifying change-of-pace…

No. 14 Syracuse will travel to No. 5 Clemson on Saturday for what will be Death Valley’s first meeting between 6-0 teams or better in its 81-year history. The Orange will look to break the Tigers’ 37-game home win streak, CFB’s longest active such streak. With the Atlantic Division on the line, this battle of undefeateds will highlight the 12:00 slate on Saturday.  Syracuse enters as 13.5-point underdogs against a Clemson team led by junior quarterback DJ Uiagaleilei, who has finally emerged as the elite passer, and Heisman Trophy candidate, Clemson fans expected as a five-star prospect. This will only…

The day Panthers fans have been clamoring for has finally arrived: Matt Rhule was fired this morning after the Panthers’ 37-15 loss against the 49ers. Rhule had an 11-27 record as the Panthers’ head coach, where he was hired after turning both Baylor and Temple into ranked college programs.  Carolina ranks in the bottom-five in five crucial offensive metrics this season: PPG (28th), yards per game (29th), third-down percentage (31st), red zone touchdown percentage (30th) and passer rating (30th). Rhule had a shocking 1-27 record when teams scored 17 points or more, including 25 straight losses. Panthers’ defensive passing game…

Matt Rhule should be sitting on a hot plate right now. The Panthers (1-3) have been one of the worst offenses in football through four weeks. Baker Mayfield passes have been batted down at the line constantly, and the throws that make it through are usually off-target.  There is zero creativity in this offense. Ben McAdoo has done nothing to establish the team’s strengths, failing consistently to get playmakers the ball in space. Here are stats to know from the Panthers’ first four games that make me believe a complete coaching rebuild is in order. Baker is bad, but Matt…

Clemson’s first real test of the season ended in a 51-45 OT thriller, in which the Tigers came out victorious. It salvaged a pathetic defensive performance that featured 120 penalty yards, its most since the 2013 Orange Bowl. Despite being plagued by pass interference penalties and allowing a career-high six touchdowns to Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman, the Tigers were able to extend the nation’s longest active winning streak to 10 on Saturday. From struggles in the outside zone to DJ Uiagalelei’s significant offseason maturity, here’s what I saw from Clemson in Saturday’s shootout victory.  Clemson struggled with outside zone…
