Audric Estime Leads Three-Headed Attack in Win Against UNC

After picking up HC Freeman’s first win with the help from their RBs: Audric Estime and Chris Tyree, Notre Dame was feeling pretty good coming into their matchup with a red-hot North Carolina team. North Carolina’s offense, while young, bolstered a top flight offense led by redshirt freshmen Drake Maye. On the other side of the ball, UNC’s defense is one of the worst across all of NCAA.

Picking up where they left off

Last week, we saw OC Rees rely more heavily on his RBs to help lead his team to victory. This week, Rees needed a kick in the rear before unleashing his RBs again. After a three-and-out and a missed field goal, it seemed that Notre Dame was in for a long game. On their third drive, Rees finally gave in and began relying on his three-headed running attack to take over.

Joining the fray this week, Logan Diggs, who was left wide open on a throw from Drew Pyne.

    Notre Dame RB contributions

    • Audric Estime – 17 carries, 134 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns
    • Chris Tyree – 15 carries, 80 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
Tyree added four catches for 24 yards.
    • Logan Diggs – 10 carries, 50 yards and three catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.

    Audric Estime emergence

This offseason with Kyren Williams declaring for the NFL draft, it was expected that Chris Tyree would be Notre Dame’s top rushing option – in steps Audric Estime. Coming into his Sophomore season, Estime played in 2 games in the previous year and logged only 7 plays. Sean Stires of the Irish Breakdown likened him big body, physical backs: Derrick Henry, Zeke Elliott, Josh Jacobs and, future Hall-of-Famer, Marshawn Lynch.

His slow breakout season is upon us. We’ve seen his physical stature and this translates well for him. Whether it’s downfield running:

Audric Estime (@AudricEstime) is up there with players I’d least like to tackle in CFB. When he gets downhill, good luck. Also, huge hat tip for the offensive line’s performance yesterday. pic.twitter.com/RuOjWJwZ50

    or in pass protection:

The 134 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns touchdowns will get the headlines but Audric Estime (@AudricEstime) also took a page out of Kyren Williams’ pass protection resume. Great work. pic.twitter.com/9dBqwAjmn1

Estime is a force to be reckon with. I’m hoping OC Rees continues to utilize Estime and compliment him with Tyree and Diggs as this provides the offense the necessary development to open up their passing game. Pyne can attest to this completing 24 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns on the day.

Notre Dame will face #19 BYU in their next contest. Let’s keep playing like champions!
