The Notre Dame RBs were on full display at home against the Golden Bears. While ND is still figuring out their identity, they did get HC Freeman his first win for his first season with the Irish. In a game where the Irish were 12 point favorites, surviving a last-second “Hail Mary” attempt is not where they want to be.

Notre Dame fans have called for OC Tommy Rees to utilize his backfield more often and it sounds like he listened. Notre Dame RBs made up the offense both on the ground and in the receiving game. Together, they made up 227 of the 297 yards on offense. Check out their stats:
- Chris Tyree – Rushing: 17 carries for 64 yards; Receiving: 5 catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.
- Audric Estime – Rushing: 18 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown; Receiving: 3 catches for 43 yards.
It’s great that the Notre Dame RBs came ready for California, as Drew Pyne – like Tyler Buchner – seemed lost in this offense. OC Rees made sure to make his feelings known in a now viral video:

Thankfully, HC Rees continued feeding Tyree and Estime. He avoided his previous mistakes by hoping his QB gets it together. Next week, Notre Dame travels to Chapel Hill to take on the undefeated Tarheels. They’ll need to bring their A-game if they are to overcome a stout UNC team. Let’s hope that QB Pyne can use this game as a learning curve and bounce back.
Also, we saw the return of the prodigal son, Manti Te’o, who received a warm welcome from the Notre Dame faithful. It was great to see Manti Te’o and his daughter at the field that he once dominated on.
