The Atlanta Falcons, who just missed the playoffs last season after a tight race in the NFC South are looking to re-structure their locker room after letting go of Head Coach Arthur Smith. Who was bashed in the media for not using his first-round draft picks to their full potential.
One of those top picks was Bijan Robinson, who had multiple running backs cutting into his carries for most of the season including Tyler Allegier and Cordarrelle Patterson. Robinson rushed for 976 yards in 2023 while adding 487 yards on 58 catches and 8 total touchdowns. Despite splitting work, Robinson was able to put together a productive rookie campaign and was a finalist for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson on 2024 NFL Season, “I want 2,000 yards rushing”
While he was able to eclipse 1,400 scrimmage yards in his rookie campaign, Robinson believes that the Falcons offense can do some special things heading into next season according to Daniel Flick of Sports Illustrated.
“I want 2,000 yards rushing. I know these are big expectations, what we can do as an offense, with all the weapons, the O-line, with (Zac Robinson) being at the helm, it can be something special… I think it’s going to be one of those special seasons that Atlanta’s been waiting for us and all of us as players have been waiting for. So, let’s get it.”
Only eight players in NFL history have managed to obtain 2,000 rushing yards in their career. The last player to do so was Derrick Henry, who achieved this milestone rushing for 2,027 yards in 2020. Robinson would be the first Atlanta Falcon in history to reach 2,000 yards if that is the goal.
Can Robinson and the Falcons Offense Generate 2,000 Rushing Yards?
Since being drafted number 8 overall as a running back which in today’s NFL is not common, Robinson’s talent has showed why he was drafted so high for his position. He is a threat in both the run and pass game, catching 58 balls out of the backfield and rushing for 4.6 yards per carry.
Arthur Smith called plays last season, which limited Robinson’s chances to make an impact. Now they bring in Zac Robinson to call plays, who just coached Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams to an 1,100-yard rushing season while missing 5 games. 2,000 yards for one player may be a little extreme considering only 8 players have done so in history, but Robinson’s talent and the system he is under can only benefit his goal.
