Among the long list of 49ers free agents, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley is another key member the team will try to bring back. There have been many fans asking, will the 49ers re-sign Emmanuel Moseley? The NFL league year beings next week, and the team has over 20 free agents to either replace or re-sign. Moseley missed more than half the season with a torn ACL but was a valuable player beforehand. After a strong year, and a serious injury, can the 49ers get him back?

Should the 49ers Re-Sign Emmanuel Moseley

Moseley has been with the 49ers since 2018. Moseley only played five games this year, tearing his ACL against the Carolina Panthers in week five. The team won 37-15 but lost a valuable player. In just five games, Moseley had 22 total tackles, 18 of which were solo, according to Pro Football Reference. He also had five pass deflections and one interception for 41 yards. That interception was also a touchdown for the cornerback, against the Carolina Panthers.

Following Moseley sustaining his injury, the two starting cornerbacks were Charvarius Ward, who played with Moseley, and Deommodore Lenoir, who stepped in for Moseley. Lenoir had a slow start when he had to come in for Moseley, but as the season progressed, so did he. The team still needs more depth at that position, having dealt with multiple injuries in the secondary. They will need to decide if Lenoir can be their starter, or if they want Moseley back as well.

Deommodore Lenoir since taking over for Emmanuel Moseley at RCB in week 6:

    • 28 yards allowed per game
    • 0 touchdowns allowed
    • 63.0 passer rating against

In the season closing press conference, 49ers General Manager, John Lynch, spoke about Emmanuel Moseley. Lynch said that Moseley’s rehab was going well, and at the time was practicing at their facility, back in January. Lynch said he felt encouraged about his progress and would like to re-sign the cornerback. The biggest questions with Moseley would be his price and his health.

Although it is a tough situation for a player to sustain a serious injury, this could be leverage for the team to sign him a smaller deal. That is not to say it will be cheap, as Moseley will be able to try for a bigger deal with other teams. As noted, the 49ers have a number of free agents, which can be read here. As of this moment, they only have 7-8 million in cap space.

While there has not been too much discussion towards the public on where Moseley and the team stand, this will be something to monitor, as the 49ers will not want to give him too much of a chance to negotiate with other teams. Emmanuel Moseley is an unrestricted free agent and can either decide to work out a deal to help the team or explore elsewhere. Luckily for Moseley, his injury was sustained back in October, giving him a lot of time to recover.
