How dare Zach Wilson spend his time off with his girlfriend? That’s how Shaun Morash feels, at least, after Wilson flew to Utah (where he’s from) to spend time with his girlfriend and family. Just to make things clear, almost every player does non-football things during their bye week, as they have every right to. Getting criticized for relaxing during a permitted stretch of the season is simply absurd.
Zach Wilson is about to play the most important football games of his career and rather than stay back and grind in NJ he took his gf back home to Utah to go apple picking. Disgrace pic.twitter.com/wi977ZaiSZ

Granted, WFAN has managed to make what should’ve been the simplest work week ever a completely avoidable circus. The New York Jets are facing the New York Giants, the station’s two local NFL teams. Two different shows managing to stir off-the-field controversy that barely pertains to the game at hand is impressive for all the wrong reasons.
Morash should also be aware that Wilson’s mentor, future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, urged Wilson to use his free time for non-football things. Zach Wilson would be much wiser to take advice from a four-time MVP than a radio host when it concerns playing football at a high level.
A Look at Zach Wilson’s Season Before Week 8
Wilson was pressed into duty unexpectedly after Aaron Rodgers quickly got injured in Week 1. The first few games were rocky, but he’s been much better recently, starting with his Week 4 performance against the Chiefs. It appears that Rodgers may be rubbing off on the BYU product.
After six games, Zach Wilson is on pace for career-best marks in completion percentage, interception rate, passer rating, and passing yards. The Jets are 3-3, highlighted by a win over the Eagles before the bye, as they prepare for Sunday’s “road” game against the Giants. The offense is far from great, but Wilson has grown enough to help the team compete every week.
Playing turnover-free football to help take down a heavy title favorite is worthy of enjoying time off. Now, it’s time for Wilson to get back into football mode.
