Training Camp has been officially underway for about a week and the Cowboys are already facing injury concerns. Wide Receiver James Washington fractured his fifth metatarsal during a seven on seven drill. Health is an ongoing battle for the team and this injury will put Washington out for 6-10 weeks. This coincides with the Michael Gallup injury, leaving the position at a bit of a disadvantage. The wide receiver injury theme is not a good look entering the 2022 season.
James Washington Injury
During the first practice wearing pads the team was running seven on seven drills for the skills positions. During this drill James Washington appeared to get his foot caught underneath CB Trevon Diggs. After the play Washington was able to get to his feet but unable to put weight on his right foot. Eventually, he was carted off the field. X-rays on his right foot have concluded he fractured his fifth metatarsal. This is the long bone on the outside of the foot which connects to the small toe. Washington is expected to be out for 6-10 weeks meaning he will return a few weeks before the bye week, week 9 of the regular season.
Dallas’ Wide Receivers
As this wide receiver injury to James Washington is a setback, pairing it with Michael Gallup being out for his ACL tear means the Wide Receiver group will be thin. That being said, do not count them out just yet. Ceedee Lamb is still expected to have a breakout year, and did you see the catch by T.J. Vasher? Also, one of the best things an offense can do to open up the passing game is to have a good running game. That should be a given with the Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard duo of thunder and lightning.
