Patrick Mahomes is without a doubt the most entertaining quarterback in the NFL. From the 70 yard touchdown throws in the air, to the no look passes, he is a truly gifted athlete. It will take a special season for Mahomes to win his second NFL MVP, but he has the players around him to make that possible.
How Will Mahomes Perform Without Tyreek Hill?
Patrick Mahomes lost his number one target, Tyreek Hill, this offseason to the Miami Dolphins. Tyreek Hill is one of the most electric wide receivers in the NFL and his absence will definitely be missed. Many people think that Mahomes numbers might take a dip this year, but I don’t think that will happen. Mahomes may have lost his best deep route runner, but he added some very good talent that will help him open up the game.
The Chiefs signed Juju Smith Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling this offseason. Juju and Valdes-Scantling bring in some much needed experience to add to this wide receiver core. In five seasons, Juju has 3,855 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns. 26 touchdowns does not seem like a lot, but when you look at the offense that the Steelers ran, it is very different than what the Chiefs will run. Juju will become WR1 and will be more of a target player than he was in Pittsburgh. Marques Valdes-Scantling had 2,153 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 4 seasons with Green Bay. Valdes-Scantling was extremely overlooked because of Davante Adams, and now with a new team will be able to get more targets and become more versatile in an explosive offense.
Kelce Becomes Mahomes’ #1 Target
One player that will receive a significant amount of the ball is Travis Kelce. Kelce is one of the best tight ends in the NFL and is Patrick Mahomes favorite target. Kelce has been to seven straight Pro Bowls and has earned every single one. He has six straight seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards and I don’t see him ending that streak this year. I see Mahomes and Kelce putting up monster numbers as a duo this season and defenses should be on watch. Mahomes has plenty of weapons on this offense and because of that, I believe he is the front runner to win this years MVP. He could easily repeat his 2018 season where he threw for 50 touchdowns. This offense is always a force to be reckoned with and even without Tyreek Hill, they should be a top 5 offense in the NFL.
