There has been many offseason changes going around in the NFL this year. Therefore you think the MVP favorites would maybe change a little this year, but that wasn’t the case. The top five favorites for the MVP this year are the top five rated quarterbacks in the league. Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are tied for first at +700 odds, Tom Brady comes in next at +800 odds, and Aaron Rodgers and Justin Herbert close out the top five at +900 odds. These five quarterbacks have proved they are the best in the game and will compete to win the NFL’s most prestigious individual reward, the MVP.
Why Josh Allen Can Win the MVP
Josh Allen is one of the best throwing/running quarterbacks in the NFL without a doubt. Last year, Allen had 4,407 passing yards, 36 passing touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. The one thing holding Allen back from winning the trophy last year was his interceptions. I believe if he cuts that number down, he should have no problem winning his first ever MVP. Josh Allen has proved that he is a leader on and off the field and has proven how successful he can be and take the Bills to the next level, which is winning their first Super Bowl.
Why Patrick Mahomes Can Win the MVP
Patrick Mahomes has proven that he is one of the most electric quarterbacks in the NFL. Last year, Mahomes had 4,839 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. One of the biggest news in the NFL offseason was the departure of Tyreek Hill. Therefore, I believe that Mahomes will not put up the same kind of numbers you’re used to seeing this year. Mahomes still has Travis Kelce, but will need to look to add a strong #2 option who can run the deep routes to open up the middle of the field like Tyreek Hill did.
Why Tom Brady Can Win the MVP
Tom Brady is entering his 23rd NFL season and is still competing with guys half his age. Brady, last season, had 5,316 passing yards, 43 passing touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. That was Brady’s best season since 2007 where he had 50 passing touchdowns and only 8 interceptions. Brady has continued to age like fine wine in the NFL and he is going to put up some exciting numbers this year with this talented offense. Look for Russell Gage to have a big year this year playing behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Why Aaron Rodgers Can Win the MVP
Aaron Rodgers has won the last two MVP trophies, for good reasoning. In 2020, Rodgers had 4,299 passing yards, 48 passing touchdowns and only 5 interceptions. He followed up that season with 4,115 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. Rodgers had two incredible seasons back to back years, but I have a feeling his numbers will decline this year. Rodgers lost his #1 target, Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams is one of the best wide receivers in the league and his missing presence will take a toll on Rodgers numbers.
Why Justin Herbert Can Win the MVP
Justin Herbert has proven to be one of the most electric quarterbacks in the NFL despite only being in the league for two seasons. Herbert has the NFL record for most passing yards (9,350) and passing touchdowns (69) in a players first two seasons. Herbert has the arm strength and accuracy to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The Chargers have made their offensive line significantly stronger, which will give Herbert more time to produce bigger numbers than he has in the previous years.
