What to Watch For: College Football Week 13
Florida State Minus Jordan TravisĀ
Florida State QB Jordan Travis revealed the injury he sustained on Saturday against North Alabama will end his season and career at Florida State. Travis was carted off the field in the 1st quarter with a lower leg injury.
āI truly cannot thank everyone enough for the many thoughts, prayers and messages that have been sent my way,ā Travis wrote in a statement posted on X, āI have been overwhelmed by the support from my teammates, coaches, the Florida State community and those all around the world. Although the injury ā¦ marks the end of my Seminole playing career, the great memories created here at FSU will never fade. Being the quarterback here at Florida State University has been a dream come true. I am humbled, honored and forever grateful.ā
The Seminoles, ranked 5th in this weekās College Football Playoff poll, will travel to Florida this Saturday.
College Football Playoff HuntĀ
The final week of the college football regular season is upon us and there are still 8 teams who have a legitimate shot at being in the College Football Playoff. The race is heating up, as several of the teams will still have to play each other over the next 2 weeks.Ā
#2 Ohio State (11-0) at #3 Michigan (11-0)Ā
Michigan has won 2 straight over Ohio State after losing 8 consecutive meetings with the Buckeyes. The winner of this game will be in the playoff pending the result of the Big 10 Championship Game, while the loser will have to watch and hope the committee has seen enough to put them in.Ā
#16 Oregon State (8-3) at #6 Oregon (10-1)Ā
Oregon has a massive test to pass before they get another shot at Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Oregon State has one of the best defenses in the country with a running game capable of slowing down the game and preventing Oregonās high-octane offense from being on the field.Ā
#5 Florida State (11-0) at Florida (5-6)
Florida State dropped from 4th to 5th in this weekās College Football Playoff poll after losing star QB Jordan Travis for the season. New starter Tate Rodemaker takes over for Travis as the Seminoles travel to Gainesville to take on the Gators. Florida needs a win to get bowl-eligibleĀ
Washington State (5-6) at #4 Washington (11-0)Ā
The Huskies host the Cougars in what could be a trap game. Crazy things happen in rivalry games, so Washington will need to focus on stopping Washington State QB Cam Ward. Ward is very capable of putting together a big game and making this interesting. A loss to Washington State would effectively end Washingtonās playoff bid.Ā
#1 Georgia (11-0) at Georgia Tech (6-5)
Georgia has been zeroing in on a third straight National Title in recent weeks. A win here and they can look ahead to a showdown with Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. They are getting healthy at the right time as OL Amarius Mims and TE Brock Bowers have both returned from injuries in recent weeks.
Texas Tech (6-5) at #7 Texas (10-1)Ā
Even with recent struggles, Texas is still in a decent position to make the College Football Playoff. With a win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa already in hand, Texas has an argument to get in over the Crimson Tide if they were to both win out.
#8 Alabama (10-1) at Auburn (6-5)
We have all witnessed some crazy Iron Bowls in the past. From Cam Newtonās comeback win to the āKick 6ā, the Alabama/Auburn rivalry has given college football some amazing moments. Auburn has already competed late in the 4th quarter with Georgia this season, so this could be another crazy finish. Even though the Tigers are coming off a loss to New Mexico State, they always get up for a game against the Tide.
Heisman Trophy Race
The Heisman Trophy race is coming down to the wire between 2 outstanding QBs. Oregon QB Bo Nix is fighting for a College Football Playoff berth, and voters could be swayed in his direction if he gets his team in. LSU QB Jayden Daniels is putting together a legendary season on the Bayou. However, only 4 players have won the Heisman over the last 25 years with 3 or more losses. Washington QB Michael Penix Jr looks like the only player with a chance to sneak back into the race. Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison and Georgia QB Carson Beck would likely need record-breaking performances to have a shot.
