Now that the Cleveland Browns have shipped their 2018 first overall pick in Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers for a bag of skittles, we can dive into the fantasy implications of some notable Browns players. I would first like to mention that the Browns really botched this QB situation… again. Everyone knows the struggle the Browns took to finally find their franchise guy. It’s been a revolving door since Y2K, remember that? The point is they didn’t have to trade Baker Mayfield. The Browns saw a flashier toy (expensive toy) in Deshaun Watson and like little kids wanted it badly. They got what they wanted, but the 200 Million dollar question is when can they use him? We will know soon what his suspension will be. As promised let’s see what the Browns can do for you in this upcoming 2022 season.
Nick Chubb
I have taken Nick Chubb the last two seasons in my main league with all of my high school friends. No one has been bigger on him than I have. He has gone over 1000 yards every season in his career. With that being said I am off the wagon on him and expect to see a slight decline in his production this season. The Browns would like to get Kareem Hunt more involved in the offense. Not to mention Chubb’s stats last year are a bit misconstrued as Hunt missed nine games. I will boldly predict Nick Chubb will fall short of 1000 total yards for the first time in his career and disappoint fantasy owners who take him as early as the second round.
Amari Cooper
Amari Cooper is ranked around WR20 in the DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, and Courtland Sutton range. The only Wide Receiver on this list I would take over Cooper is maybe Terry McLaurin. He’s a solid WR2 to get in the fourth round and even better if you can snag him in the fifth. He’s gonna be the clear-cut WR1 for the Browns with a significant drop-off between him and Donovan Peoples- Jones as the WR2. The target share will be there which makes him a solid fantasy option in the 2022 season. Jacoby Brissett is a bit of a concern, but, I still project Amari Cooper to have 70 catches for 840 yards and 7 TD’s.
Kareem Hunt
Kareem Hunt is one of the better backup RB’s to own in fantasy. He’s a guy who is going to see the field and be relevant with or without Nick Chubb. If Chubb were to go down with an injury then you have an RB1 at a sixth round price. He’s currently hanging around the RB30 spot behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Miles Sanders, and AJ Dillon. If you pass on any of these RB’s then Kareem Hunt is an excellent consolation prize. Look for Hunt to be in the area of 600 rushing yards and tack on another 350 receiving yards with a combined total of 10 TD’s.
Donovan Peoples- Jones
“DPJ” is a huge unknown heading into the 2022 fantasy football season. He has the size and speed at 6’2 200lbs to be a deep sleeper this year. We have seen glimpses of greatness from him. He went for 5 catches 101 yards and 2 scores in week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals last year. He has an even bigger opportunity this year, as he will slot into the WR2 spot opposite side of Amari Cooper. Will he be consistent? Or boom or bust? I am leaning towards the latter here. I think we will see games where he explodes, and other games where he has 4 catches for 40 yards. Early projection for Donovan Peoples-Jones 54 catches, 710 yards, and 6 scores.
