Malik Willis has been stellar in the preseason. It seems he’s made a spectacular play every week. Willis has been a dual threat, making plays with both his arm and his legs. There was not too much buzz about the QBs coming out of the 2022 NFL draft. However, Malik Willis is starting to make teams regret passing on him in the first two rounds. Considering there was speculation he could be picked as early as 2nd overall, he fell to the Tennessee Titans with the 86th pick in the 3rd round.
Threat to QB1??
Earlier this offseason, QB Ryan Tannehill made it clear that helping Malik Willis is not his priority. “We’re competing against each other,” Tannehill said of Willis via Nick Shook Around The NFL Writer. “We’re watching the same tape, we’re doing the same drills. I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him, but if he learns from me along the way then that’s a great thing.” Even though Tannehill will be the starter going in to Week 1, it’s very possible Willis could overtake him by the end of the 2022 season. Ryan Tannehill ended 2021 on a bad note, throwing 3 interceptions in the AFC Divisional matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Clearly the Titans thought it was important to address the QB position if they wish to avoid another disappointing playoff loss.
Mutual respect from MVP
Malik Wills is already getting praise from one of the top quarterbacks in the league. 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson has been quoted to have strong like for Willis’s game via Ryan Mink BaltimoreRavens.com Staff Writer. “He has an arm on him, he did that little spin roll to the left and went crazy. I was like, ‘I like him. I like him a lot.’ He’s a great quarterback, and he made some down-the-field throws, too. He’s going to be good in the league.” Malik Willis still has a lot to prove, but he has answered some of the concerns about his ability to play in the NFL.
