Even under their new owners, the Washington Commanders were ranked last in a player survey that was recently conducted by the NFL Players Association (NFLPA).
The NFLPA just revealed the second set of its annual report cards on Wednesday, which allowed players to grade different aspects of the team’s working conditions, such as the locker room, travel, ownership, and the coaching staff, among others.
The Washington Commanders are often criticized for their substandard facilities, which is not a surprise considering their issues under former owner Dan Snyder. With Josh Harris taking over the club last year, the hope is for them to make marked improvements, but so far it hasn’t gone to fruition.
Where the Washington Commanders got the lowest grades
The categories that the Washington Commanders that got the lowest grades are the treatment of families, locker room, training room, training staff, and team travel, as all of them were given a grade of F or lower.
Washington is one of the teams that don’t provide daycare support or a family room during games, which discourages their family members from attending their games.
The size of their locker room, meanwhile, is another aspect that needs to be addressed, as their players feel that it doesn’t have enough room at its current size, although the bigger problem is the sewage leaks.
As for the training room and the training staff, besides the sanitary issues, the players feel that there are not enough trainers to help them and that their equipment needs a major upgrade.
For team travel, it was also given an ugly grade since players often complained about travel arrangements under the former management. Only 50 percent of the players “feel like they have a comfortable amount of personal space during flights.”
The brightest spots for the Washington Commanders
It’s not all bad after all for the Washington Commanders in terms of their strength coaches, ownership, and head coach, as they were given grades of A, B, and C, respectively,
The strength coaches of Washington are reportedly great at creating individualized programs for their players. As for the head coach, the C grade should be higher with Dan Quinn already in town.
But at the end of the day, it all starts from the ownership. With Josh Harris signifying his utmost commitment to the team, many from within the organization are already buying in.
