The Dallas Cowboys signed a former Mississippi State standout at defensive end Monday before their matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Cowboys announced a few major roster moves before the Monday Night Football game.

According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Cowboys signed defensive end Tyrus Wheat to the 53-man roster. The Cowboys placed linebacker Leighton Vander Esch and cornerback C..J Goodwin on injured reserve. The Cowboys activated Nahshon Wright and elevated Malik Davis and Malik Jefferson.

Wheat is a rookie UDFA who signed with the Cowboys following April’s draft. Wheat earned second-team All-SEC honors for his play in the 2022 season. He recorded 53 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and six sacks last season.
Wheat registered 17 total sacks in his three years playing at Mississippi State.
