Trey Lance is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys. After losing out to Sam Darnold in the San Francisco quarterback competition, the 49ers got a fourth-round pick back for the former third-overall selection. The teams have made all of their public statements and we finally got to hear what Lance thought about his move to the Cowboys.
Trey Lance Reacts To Trade To The Dallas Cowboys
Lance talked to ESPN’s Todd Archer and he is pretty pleased with his new team.
“I really tried to not expect anything one way or another, but I can say that when I heard ‘Cowboys,’ I had a big smile on my face.”
He was happy to get out of the situation in San Francisco. Reports indicated that he was devastated to learn that he lost the backup job to Darnold. At that point, it seemed like the bridge had been burned.
Lance To Challenge Prescott?
Immediately after the trade, the analysis of what this meant for Dak Prescott started. Lance made sure to say that Prescott welcomed him with open arms to the team.
“He welcomed me with open arms. It meant a lot to me. This business is crazy but, for me, I’m not looking forward — at all. I’m just trying to take it one day at a time. This guy has played at a very high level for a long time so, obviously, just tons of respect for him, as I think he deserves and gets from across the league.”
While Prescott may not be excited about them bringing in Lance, he knows that it isn’t Lance’s fault. He is a great quarterback to learn under and hopefully will be able to resurrect his career in Dallas.
Will we ever see Trey Lance as the starter for the Dallas Cowboys? It is certainly possible. He now gets a season to study the playbook and learn under Prescott. If he can show improvement, the team may look to move on from Prescott and give Lance the reigns.
