The New Orleans Saints lost a wide receiver to the injured reserve before the start of the regular season. The Saints are set to hand over the keys to quarterback Derek Carr for the 2023 season. But he’ll be a little short of help to start the season.

Smith is dealing with a groin injury he sustained during training camp. He underwent groin surgery to help repair the injury.
Smith’s placement on injured reserve wasn’t surprising, but it’s still not ideal for the Saints and their depth at wide receiver in September.
Rashid Shaheed, Chris Olave, and Michael Thomas are expected to be the Saints’ top three wide receivers on the depth chart to start the season.
