Quick analysis of the reasons why these players with such a high NIL value already leave the school they spent the season. (It’s up to you to judge whether it’s the high NIL value because they came, or they were that valuable and the money followed. Caleb Williams joined his Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley at USC. Jordan Addison went on from Pitt to “Transfer U”, (USC), on a huge NIL deal, here’s a nice article by all places, Golf Digest. Spencer Rattler left for SC from Oklahoma after being benched for Caleb Williams. (Note: Spencer Rattler is in the transfer portal again from SC).
Drew Sanders transferred to Arkansas from Alabama, partially because of playing time. Quinn Ewers transferring to Ohio State from Texas might have to do with playing time, but in his own words, he wanted to be closer to family and friends (h/t Eleven Warriors website).

Quick rundown of 6-10 NIL top 10. 6. Bo Nix, 690K. 7. Jahmyr Gibbs, 682K. 8. Michael Penix, Jr. 512K. Jayden Daniels, 487K. 10. Dillon Gabriel 415K.
Bo Nix transferred from Auburn to Oregon, and the coach that recruited him was no longer at Auburn. Jahmyr Gibbs transferred from Georgia Tech to Alabama, partially to increase his draft stock. Michael Penix, Jr. made NIL waves with catchy marketing, and going from Indiana to Washington became starting QB. Jayden Daniels left Arizona State for LSU, his leaving for more opportunity and also second-guessing about the state of the Arizona State football program. Dillon Gabriel switched his transfer portal decision from USC to Oklahoma (originally from UCF) after Caleb Williams, listed above, transferred to USC.

There are some excellent players listed in top 10 transfer that do not have enlarged NIL portfolios. Perhaps that’s a reason for their transfer, or perhaps it is coincidental. It’s not talked enough about, but having a strong NIL marketing package does take a time commitment. Some players may feel that their game takes precedence, or other players may have family or other commitments that preclude them from pursuing opportunities. Here’s the newest to enter the transfer portal.
Sam Hartman (leaving Wake Forest) is listed as the #1 Transfer in the Dec 2022 portal(h/t Pro Football Focus). He is listed at $772K NIL worth (currently). Travis Hunter (leaving Jackson State) is the #2 Transfer, with a listing of $678K NIL. The #3 Transfer according to PFF is Devin Leary, QB. leaving N.C. State for Kentucky.
