The Top 5 NFL Teams With the Most Cap Space Heading Into the 2024 Season

At this time of the year, the NFL Draft has concluded, Free agency is mostly done but still, some star players are available like Justin Simmons and Xavien Howard. Who were released by their respective teams and have not been signed to new teams yet. and also some huge trades have gone down like Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

With the NFL Offseason almost being over, let’s look at the top five teams with the most cap space as of right now going into the 2024 season.

5. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers currently have $30,326,002 million available, $181,107,382 total spent, and $51,437,167 in dead cap.

They made many moves this offseason to gain cap space.

The team released wide receiver Mike Williams in March to get under the salary cap before the start of the new NFL league year. Williams was set to count $32 million against the 2024 salary cap, and this move cleared $20 million from the team’s books.

Pass-rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa restructured their contracts to free up additional salary cap space.

The Chargers traded star wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears. The Chargers were hoping to keep Allen, but the two sides couldn’t agree on an adjusted contract, and the Chargers traded Allen to the Bears for a fourth-round pick (No. 110) on March 14.

4. Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans currently have $30,836,098 million in cap space available, $189,294,315 million total spent, and $39,629,754 million in dead cap.

The Tennessee Titans made some big moves this offseason, they moved on from franchise icon and star running back, Derrick Henry, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens while replacing him with Tony Pollard.

They also signed star wide receiver Calvin Ridley, to a four-year deal worth $92 million, and $50 million will be guaranteed.

This was also before the team signed Tyler Boyd.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars currently have $34,231,736 million in cap space available, $209,393,516 million total spent, and $24,504,594 million in dead cap.

The Jaguars as mentioned above moved on from Calvin Ridley but also signed two key players for their team in Gabe Davis and Arik Armstead.

2. Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders have $43,437,115 million in cap space, $192,845,070 million total spent, and $27,460,886 million in dead cap.

The Commanders signed Marcus Mariota to help newly drafted Quarterback Jayden Daniels, and signed former Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, and future hall of famer Bobby Wagner all to free agent deals this offseason.

The New England Patriots have $50,639,159 million in cap space, $193,016,604 million total spent, and $21,497,014 million in dead cap.

The days of Belichick and Brady are officially gone with Jerod Mayo becoming the newest Patriots head coach.

The Patriots highest-paid player this season with only $14,675,850 million owed is Matthew Judon, and only $10,941,176 million on the offensive side of the ball, which is Micheal Ownenu.

The Patriots also drafted Drake Maye, third overall out of North Carolina.
