Training Camp officially started yesterday, and the Eagles and their fans are all smiles. The upcoming season promises excitement and competitiveness through week 18. The birds will have their share of drama and headlines through training. Here are some of the stories we’re following in the next few weeks:
New Editions
The Eagles had a productive Offseason. For more on that, click here. Now, heading into camp, those new editions need to show out. Guys like AJ Brown, Haason Reddick, James Bradberry, and Kyzir White, along with other guys such as Zach Pascal, Ja’Quan Hardy, and Jaquiski Tartt. Among the additions, there are also the rookies. Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean are notables and it will be interesting to see if they can hit the ground running this summer. As for the veteran acquisitions, we all have our eyes on Brown and Reddick, but I’ll have a closer eye on guys like Bradberry and White. Both of those guys are gonna be every-down players, but whether or not they can be difference makers is a separate question.
Injuries
Going into camp, the team has just 2 injuries. Both of which are third-team players. That’s not a familiar headline for eagles fans. Some of the Eagles’ most notable players, especially in the trenches, have had injury-riddled pasts. Of course, Brandon Graham is coming off of a season-ending Achilles tear. After that, older players like Darius Slay, Jason Kelce, and Fletcher Cox are also being closely watched on the injury front.
Coaching Turnover
Doug Pederson had to deal with a few coaching changes in his tenure, as did Coach Reid. From last season to this one, Sirianni made no significant changes to his staff. This is so incredibly important to the players on the team. Especially with the younger core that the birds have, it’s vital that they are all comfortable and don’t have to sweat learning the playbook.
Hurts SZN
AJ Brown arrived at camp on Wednesday in a baseball hat that read “Hurts SZN”. One of the biggest stories in all of the NFL, let alone the team, is Jalen Hurts. Hurts is riding the coattails of a good, not great season under center. He definitely proved himself as a starting QB in the NFL, now the Eagles are waiting for him to become their franchise. The biggest questions surrounding Hurts include throwing mechanics and consistency, which hopefully have bettered in the 2022 off-season.
The Eagles could be preparing for a historic season, but they have to put in the work to live up to the hype. The season is gonna be a grind and it all starts this week. Now we finally get to see if they can back up the attention they’ve gotten.
