The Texas Longhorns are the number one ranked team in the country heading into this week’s matchup against the 18 Oklahoma Sooners. Texas and Oklahoma is one of the biggest rivalries in all of college football.
Before every matchup this season, head coach Steve Sarkisian understands the importance of respecting opponents. His message about it has been consistent toward his players all season long.
Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Makes Announcement Ahead Of the Oklahoma Sooners Matchup
Entering this matchup, the Longhorns have a 5-0 overall record and a 1-0 record in SEC Conference play and the Sooners have a 1-1 record in SEC Conference play and a 4-1 overall record. Texas is favored by double digits against Oklahoma. Head coach Steve Sarkisian was unaware of being favored by double digits against the Oklahoma Sooners. Sarkisian said to the media:
“It’s a rivalry game. Forget whatever we’re favored by or we’re not, it doesn’t matter. Records and things don’t matter in games like this.”
He is not wrong by any means because the Sooners upset the Longhorns last season. It was Texas’s only loss in BIG12 Conference play. They eventually won the BIG12 title and also made it to the college football playoff before losing to the Washington Huskies.
Quinn Ewers Projected To Start Over Arch Manning
This week, Quinn Ewers is projected to be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns over Arch Manning, unless Ewers has a major setback from his oblique/abdominal injury. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is looking forward to seeing Quinn Ewers back on the field against the Oklahoma Sooners.
Manning played well in his two starts for Ewers, but it is time for Texas to start looking ahead. It all starts with them facing Oklahoma and taking them seriously. If they do, they should win this game easily.
