The Texas Longhorns will be playing a football game as the top-ranked team in the country for the first time since 2008 this weekend against the UL-Monroe Warhawks. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is going to be facing the music for the rest of the season about whether he will be starting Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning in football games.
Ewers left last week’s 56-7 win in the first half against the UTSA Roadrunners with an abdominal/oblique injury. Is Quinn Ewers ready to go or not?
Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Announces Arch Manning Will Start This Week Against the UL-Monroe Warhawks
On Thursday, head coach Steve Sarkisian announced that Arch Manning will be the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns this week over Quinn Ewers. The Longhorns are favored by -44.5 points this weekend against the Warhawks.
Before Ewers left with his injury last week, he completed 87.5% of his passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. When Quinn Ewers was sidelined with the injury, Arch Manning balled out and completed 75.0% of his passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns, along with a 67-yard rushing touchdown.
Steve Sarkisian said about Manning’s performance last week:
“You never know, as a backup, when you’re going to get put in the game. For [Manning] to come in on his first play to hit DeAndre Moore for the touchdown. On his third play — we’re in a little different style of offense when he’s in there — the little zone read, to pull it and the explosive play. I love the post throw to Ryan Wingo for the for the long touchdown. The big corner route to Ryan. He threw a beautiful kind of slot fade to Johntay Cook for a touchdown. He did some nice things for us and extended some drives on third downs. So that was a great experience for him that he got.”
Arch Manning was also the CO -SEC Freshman of the Week last week. It will be interesting to see what he can do for an encore in Week 4.

It will be interesting to see how many touchdowns and yards Arch Manning will throw for this week. If he plays well again, it will be interesting to see if he will start over Quinn Ewers the following week against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. It will be something for Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian to decide.
