In the aftermath of the Patriots 20-7 stinker in South Florida this weekend, everyone has a take. The line struggled, offensive play calling was a mess, Belichick made some questionable decisions, etc. Fortunately for you, I have a take and a solution as well. If you saw my piece (The Patriot Panic Button) you know that this isn’t on Mac, but his receivers. His receiving core would be better off as a barbershop quartet than NFL pass-catchers. Frankly, I’d rather watch that then what we all saw on Sunday. However, it’s still early in the season for these Pats and there is time to improve and add pieces. Could Terrell Owens, OBJ, or DeSean Jackson be future Patriots? Here’s why they and others are possible candidates:
The Old Man and The TD: Terrell Owens

Am I kidding? Well yes, but possibly no. The six time Pro-Bowler is 48 years old and last played in the NFL in 2010. However! His playing days in professional football are not quite behind him just yet. T.O. spent the last season playing in the Fan Controlled Football League and he believes he’s capable of a comeback. In an interview back in May of this year when asked about a possible return, T.O. said “You put me on that field in the first half or even the second half of [The NFC Championship Game], Tom Brady could very well have his eighth Super Bowl ring.”
In the same interview, he mentioned that he “had an owner that basically reached out to me, basically said keep myself ready. I did that. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. But again, I know I can still play the game. No question about it.” If you don’t believe him, here is a video of TO running a 4.4 40 yard dash less than one month ago.
So, uh, @terrellowens just ran a sub 4.5 40…at 48 years old in the Dash of the Titans.

So do you think this is a viable option for the Pats right now? Could he bring a veteran presence to a young offense or would he be more of a distraction than anything? I’m saying it would be a positive. It couldn’t hurt!
Super Bowl Superstar: Odell Beckham Junior

OBJ. Remember him? What first comes to mind, last year’s Super Bowl win or the one handed grab as a Giant? If you can’t tell by the picture, I’m saying the Giants. That being said, he still was a high value performer before leaving the Championship game with an injury. He’s 29 years old and looking for a home as a free agent. Beckham is being courted by the Bills and Rams currently, but has yet to sign on anywhere.
While he has a history of being a distraction and a reputation for being a poor teammate, the pros certainly outweigh the cons. He’s a dynamic athlete and fantastic route runner that would take attention off of Bourne and Meyers. This means easier passes for Mac and less time for plays to develop. Out of all the free agents on the market, OBJ certainly makes the most sense. Bonus points: we would not have to play him if he goes to Buffalo.
The Friend of my Friend: Scotty Miller

As far as the opportunity for trades goes, Scotty Miller of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is a realistic option. After adding Julio Jones and Russell Gage, the Super Bowl hero is being thrown to the wayside by the Bucs. He was inactive for the Sunday Night Football win over Dallas, and his days may be coming to an end in Tampa. This could be a cheap pick up for the Pats that could use a guy like Scotty in the WR receiver room. He’s a deep threat for Mac, he has championship experience, and he’s played with Tom Brady. He is looking for a chance to prove himself again and the Pats are looking for another receiver. They would be able to get him for cheap as well so why not take the risk? What’s a 5th round pick for a guy like this?
No matter what the Patriots do, it has to be something. Doing nothing at this point is doing nothing except falling behind. If they want to compete in this division (aka not come in last) then it is time to take action. So, are Terrell Owens and OBJ: Future Patriots? Sign one of these guys or someone else before it’s too late.
