Taysom Hill a fantasy football prime player? This is not a phrase I thought I would be uttering. Maybe it is just me but it has been a strange fantasy season. Running backs have mostly disappeared from relevance this season with only a couple going off here and there (mostly when they are playing against me). In 2022 I cannot believe that I am writing an article recommending Taysom Hill to be on your roster. After his season as the Saints starting quarterback didn’t go so well, I thought he was done being relevant. Clearly I was wrong. Here’s why I like him in 2022.
Taysom Hill’s Usage
The concern about Hill has always been his usage. Will he be on the field enough to get the necessary yardage to score you points? His usage has been about what you would expect through four weeks. He is hovering in the 20-30% of offensive snaps with only one week against Tampa Bay being the exception. That is not usually a great usage number for a player. However, it’s what he does with that limited time that makes Taysom Hill a fantasy football prime player.
Touchdowns are the king of fantasy football. A terrible or mediocre day can become a solid one solely based on scoring a touchdown. Through four weeks, Taysom Hill has been a touchdown machine. Last week is the obvious one where he was responsible for 4 touchdowns (3 rushing and 1 passing) but in two out of three other games he has found the end zone. Clearly the Saints are giving him opportunities to play where there is a high chance of scoring. While his usage is low, his usage in scoring situations is higher than most players. This is what makes Taysom Hill a fantasy football prime player.
Drought At The Tight End Position
If you drafted Travis Kelce or Mark Andrews you are feeling great. Otherwise, your tight end position has probably been a roller coaster this fantasy season. George Kittle is always questionable with injuries. David Njoku is handcuffed by the limited capabilities of Jacoby Brissett and the presence of Nick Chubb. Kyle Pitts simply does not get targets. Every other tight end has given fantasy managers the highest of highs and lowest of lows. The down year of the tight end has made Taysom Hill a fantasy football prime player.
Hill Does More Than Most Tight Ends
Where Hill can also have increased value is that he does so much. He is obviously a gifted runner. While his passing is not good enough to be a consistent starting quarterback in the NFL, the threat is still there as we saw on Sunday. He has also been doing some kick returning meaning there is a chance that he scores you some points there. The combination of all of these skills makes Taysom Hill a fantasy football prime player. He can’t do any worse than 1 catch for 25 yards (a stat line that Kyle Pitts had one week) and his chance of scoring is high.
Taysom Hill A Fantasy Football Prime Player Sustainability
How sustainable are these stat lines? That is the million dollar question. I don’t see a game like last week. Seattle’s defense is one of the worst in the league and Hill took advantage. However, I’ll bet that he doubles his touchdown total. If in the next seven weeks he scores you three touchdowns, you are probably pretty happy about that. Maybe there is another game where he scores multiple touchdowns and wins you the week. This high ceiling is what makes Taysom Hill a fantasy football prime player. If you are in a dynasty league I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole but in a one shot season, it is worth the risk.
In a season that has felt strange, it is time to make it stranger. I never thought I would say “Taysom Hill a fantasy football prime player” but here we are. Fantasy football is all about calculated risks with high upside. Hill is a player that is worth taking a risk on.
