BREAKING: New York Jets Sign Former Chicago Bears All-Pro Running Back For 2024 Season

The New York Jets are adding a running back with Pro Bowl credentials to their backfield before the upcoming season. They’re hoping to get more use out of him than the last former Pro Bowl running back they added to the roster last year.

The Jets added former Minnesota Vikings star and four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook last season. However, Cook’s number of touches waned in 2023 after the Jets lost quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the season due to an Achilles injury.

The Jets cut Cook, who then joined the Baltimore Ravens to finish the season and the postseason. Cook is now a free agent.

Per Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Jets signed Tarik Cohen on Wednesday. He was a star specialist and running back for the Chicago Bears before he suffered a devastating injury during the 2020 season:

“Jets are signing free-agent RB Tarik Cohen to a one-year deal, per source. Cohen was one of the NFL’s top return specialists and a receiving threat before injuries derailed his career. Cohen last played in the NFL in 2020, but now will attempt his comeback with the Jets.”

As previously discussed on GH, Cohen had a fantastic 2018 season. He attempted to make an NFL comeback with the Carolina Panthers last season. The Panthers recently cut him this offseason:

Cohen earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for the 2018 season. He played a crucial role in head coach Matt Nagy’s offense with the Chicago Bears as a running back they featured in space because of his speed. Cohen recorded 444 rushing yards, 725 receiving yards, and eight total touchdowns for the 2018 season.

Cohen suffered ACL, MCL, and tibial plateau fracture injuries during the 2020 season.

The Panthers signed Cohen to the practice squad in September. He suffered a hamstring injury in November. He signed a reserve/future contract in January.
