Steelers RB Najee Harris recently weighed in on the starting QB battle between Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. In addition, Harris commented on the expectations he has for his overall workload in the 2022 season.
On the Rich Eisen show, Harris stated…
“All the guys we have at QB, they all look good. Trubisky, Rudolph, and of course Kenny, all of them look good. They’re battling it out, they’re all taking charge, they’re all embracing what it is, the competition. I think that’s what brings the best out of us in the sport is the competition. For them to bring in these guys and compete it out and battle it out and know that your job isn’t secured yet, I think that brings the best out of us. And when the camp starts up, I think we’re gonna have a good idea of who’s gonna be the guy.”
In addition to his comments on the QB battle, Harris made comments on his workload for the upcoming season…
“I want to get 500 touches. Listen, I didn’t have an issue with the high usage rate. You know what I mean? It was the media who had an issue with it. I told them every game. ‘Man look it, if this is the way to winning, I can carry the load.’ I train to carry loads. It’s not something I haven’t done before. Done it in college, high school, NFL so for me to get that much carries I was like, ‘Man are we winning games? ‘ A stat was saying that if I had 25 carries then we were undefeated, so this is our identity right here. So let’s keep things going. If I get 500 carries, as long as we’re winning, it doesn’t really matter.”
Last season Harris totaled 381 touches gaining 1,667 yards from scrimmage. On the ground, Harris totaled 1,200 yards and seven TDS on 307 carries. Despite this heavy workload, Harris is more worries about winning than anything. He’s happy to get the touches as long as Pittsburgh is winning games.
