As usual during training camp and preseason games, players get bumps and bruises after an extended time off. A few guys for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cam Heyward and Calvin Austin who have yet to play in preseason play are healthy. Heyward is a star and one of the best players on the team, preseason reps are not exactly necessary.
Cam Heyward
Heyward was sidelined with an ankle injury prior to week two against the Jaguars. The injury did not seem to be anything of concern. At this stage of Cam’s career and his importance to the team its best to let him rest. He is the ultimate pro who will be ready to go week one. Most recently he spoke about how his ankle is feeling. Per of behindthesteelcurtain.com Cam says he is ready to go and fully participating in practice. It will be interesting to see if he suits up with limited snaps against the Lions this week.
Calvin Austin III
Austin has been one of the more intriguing guys outside of Pickens. There are a lot of concern about his size and wether his smaller frame is capable of taking big hits from NFL players. There is no question about his skills or lightening quick speed. Austin injured his foot just a few days prior to playing the Seahawks. According to him he is feeling great and ready to go.
Moving forward he is waiting on the green light from coach Tomlin to hit the field. If he is healthy I definitely see him being in against the Lions this week in a pretty significant role. I am exited to see if he does play how he fits into the Matt Canada offense. So far the trickery plays have been given to Steven Simms who has done a great job with his opportunities.
Additionally the Steelers are more than likely going to play their starters for much of the first half. It will be fun to see who plays and how long.
