It’s a fitting end to the division’s era in the SEC for it to be Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. One last showdown as East and West division champions is the best scenario for these two as they have ruled their divisions for years. Although this certainly won’t be the last time we see this battle of giants.
The Bulldogs are the back-to-back national champions and haven’t lost a game for almost two years. Their last loss was to the Crimson Tide in the 2021 SEC Championship game. Georgia would later avenge that loss with a win over Alabama for the National Championship. Which crazy as it is was a rematch from the National Championship game a year before. That history alone shows how monumental this rivalry has been. With the winner of this game being a sure playoff team the stakes are just as high as they ever were.
Georgia’s Road to SEC Championship
Georgia started slow this season with a few easier opponents hanging close to the defending champions till the end of each game. As the season progressed though the Bulldogs have looked better and better. Playing their best football of the season in their last game against a ninth-ranked Ole Miss Rebels team. The Dawgs have beaten two ranked teams in a row now and three this season while looking to knock off a ranked Tennessee this coming week.
They looked like one of the most complete teams in the league against Ole Miss with over 300 yards passing and rushing while routing the Rebels 52-17. Carson Beck has been consistent as their quarterback while making one big play after another when needed. He has a completion rate of over 72% with more than 2500 passing yards.
Alabamas Road to SEC Championship
This season’s Alabama team has had similar struggles with starting the season slow but with a loss early to the Texas Longhorns. Since that defeat Alabama has been on an undefeated streak with the team playing better and better every week. Jalyn Milroe was benched after the Texas loss only to regain his starting spot as their quarterback and improve his play every game. The last two games saw them battle it out with a good LSU team till they pulled away late and then dominated a good Kentucky team. Alabama looks ready to make a late playoff run if they can only get past Georgia.
Alabama has dominated the Bulldogs for most of their matchups in the last five years but the Georgia pulled out the win in their last meeting for the National Championship. This should be a true battle of the Titans with both teams looking complete.
Championship Matchup
Georgia and Alabama are playing their best football lately and now are headed for a showdown for playoff contention. Georgia would have the edge as far as passing attack and Alabama the edge running the ball. Both Beck and Milroe are playing lights out with playmakers all around them showing why these are two of the top teams in the nation. On the defensive side, the Bulldog’s front is stronger and gets to the quarterback more as Alabama is stronger in the secondary. This is looking to be another historic matchup between these two teams who always seem to be facing each other for either the SEC Championship or National championship every time they play.
