The Seattle Seahawks have signed 41-year-old All-Pro tackle Jason Peters to their practice squad, according to multiple sources. With injuries to starting tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas, Peters will provide depth, and more importantly, a veteran presence could do this team some good.

    Jason Peters Career

Peters was with the Cowboys for 10 games in 2022, starting in one. He is the oldest player in the NFL, and if he were to start a game for Seattle, he would be the second-oldest player to start a game since Washington’s Ray Brown, 43 years 20 days old, around 1950. Jason Peters is a sure-fire Hall of Famer with two All-Pro nods, a Super Bowl ring, and nine Pro Bowl appearances.

Jason Peters was drafted by Buffalo in 2004 and spent his first five years with them before moving to Philadelphia. He would spend 11 years with the Eagles, where he won a Super Bowl. He spent one season with Chicago and Dallas and is now with Seattle. Peters has played 238 games, starting in 219. He also has two catches for 5 yards and a touchdown in his illustrious career.

#Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said LT Charles Cross (toe) and RT Abraham Lucas (knee) are both “hurting” and it’ll be a “challenge” for them to play on Sunday against the #Lions in Detroit.

    Seahawks Need Protection for Geno

The Seahawks are getting thin at the tackle position, and Geno had no time against the Rams to get the offense going. Jack Curhan played the entire second half after Abraham Lucas was taken out with knee discomfort. Stone Forsythe replaced Charles Cross late in the third quarter after spraining his toe.

Seattle has serious issues on the offensive line, and if they can’t get it fixed, it will be a long year for quarterback Geno Smith. The Rams sacked him twice and held the Seahawks offense to only 180 yards of total offense. They only ran 46 plays on offense and were 2 for 9 on third down.

Ian Rapoport had this say about Seattle’s plans for Jason Peterson on Twitter:

“The plan if all goes well is for Jason Peters to start on the practice squad, then move up. Similar to how it was with the Cowboys last year.”

I see Peters proving himself on the practice squad and starting a few games for Pete Carroll in 2023. Carroll had this to say about his injured offensive lineman:

“Charles hurt his toe. He’s a big man so we gotta see how he takes to that during the week. We won’t know for a while. With Abe, it’s just an old knee thing that he’s got going on. He’s got an aggravation kind of deal that he’s dealing with and we just gotta see how he handles it. It just got really uncomfortable late in the game and he had to come out.”

It is clear that Seattle is scrambling to find protection for Geno so he can get the offense going.
