While many NFL fans would feel conflicted about how the San Francisco 49ers have been performing at the moment, only a few will deny that Brock Purdy’s story is one of the most inspiring stories to come out of the NFL in recent years.
The last pick of the 2023 NFL Draft was supposed to be a nonfactor who would only be a backup at best. However, his meteoric rise to the top of the NFL has plenty of late-round QB picks inspired that they can also do the same as the 24-year-old star from Iowa State.
San Francisco 49ers’ Purdy praised as inspirational for under-the-radar QB prospects
Multiple young QBs who are aspiring to be selected in the 2024 Draft didn’t hesitate to look at Brock Purdy for continuing to work hard on their craft.
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Matt Maiocco, plenty of young quarterbacks point to him as a role model that allows them to focus on their themselves and break through to the NFL like he did.
One such player is BYU’s Kedon Slovis, who played high school football close to the young San Francisco 49ers star:
“I watched him kind of get blown up late with his offers,” Slovis said of Purdy’s recruiting. “He was a stud in high school and didn’t get offers until late — kind of under the radar. And same thing in college. He didn’t get the respect he probably deserved. It’s been awesome to see him get to where he’s gotten.”
Another QB prospect, Western Kentucky’s Austin Reed, highlighted how Purdy changed the landscape for QB prospects who would otherwise be overlooked:
“I feel like a lot of guys who are overlooked have that drive when it comes to the NFL and they’re the ones who work harder and stay on rosters and when they get their chance,” Reed said. “They make the most of it. I’m not surprised by it, knowing what kind of guy Brock is. I think he’s got a long NFL career ahead of him.”
Brock Purdy has been an incredible QB for the Niners in his first full season as the starting QB. Through 16 games, he passed the ball for 4280 yards, 31 TDs, and 11 INTs on a league-leading 113.0 QB rating,
With the team constantly looking for roster improvements to make life easier for Purdy, he’ll continue to defy the expectations set by him becoming Mr. Irrelevant. And the under-the-radar QBs of the 2024 draft class will hope to do the same thing as him once they make the pros.
