New Orleans Saints veteran Jimmy Graham made headlines for all the wrong reasons on Saturday after it was revealed that the five-time Pro Bowler was arrested in Los Angeles on Friday night after a bizarre encounter with local police.
According to TMZ Sports, the 36-year-old “was facing two misdemeanor charges of suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting, delaying and obstructing a police officer.” This was after Graham was seen walking in traffic and subsequently reported to the police by a concerned citizen.
Saints Claim Jimmy Graham Suffered ‘Likely Seizure’ Before Arrest
The Saints immediately released an official statement on the situation, claiming that Graham suffered some sort of “medical episode” and that this was the reason why he acted the way he did during his encounter with the local police:
“New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham experienced a medical episode last evening, which resulted in him becoming disoriented. He was taken into custody by local authorities and transported to a local hospital for evaluation for what Dr. John Amoss believes to be a likely seizure and spent the night under medical supervision and testing.”
Dennis Allen Reveals Jimmy Graham ‘In a Pretty Good Spot’
On Sunday, Saints head coach Dennis Allen spoke to the press before New Orleans’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. According to the 50-year-old shot-caller, Graham is in pretty good shape, all things considered:
“You won’t see him tonight out here. He’s still really recovering,” Allen said, via Charean Williams of PFT. “He’s still shaken up, but he’s actually in a pretty good spot. We’re thankful that medically it wasn’t more serious than it was. Yeah, I think he’s in a good spot. But we’re going to rest him tonight.”
Allen has reportedly rejoined the squad after his recent episode. As Allen said, the decorated tight end is still recovering so at this point, it remains unclear if he will be available to play for Las Vegas’ final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Jimmy Graham, who the Saints drafted in the third round back in 2010, sat out last season after he was unable to secure a contract with any team in the league. New Orleans brought him back this summer hoping that the veteran will be able to bring back some of his magic this season. Let’s just hope that this recent incident does not derail Graham’s comeback tour.
