Once again it is time to react to Madden ratings for Bills players. Right now we will be taking a look at EDGE rusher Von Miller and cornerback Tre’Davious White.
Von Miller (92)
It’s been quite the 2022 for one Von Miller. In his first season beyond Denver he managed to earn his second Super Bowl ring as a member of the Rams, becoming an integral piece of the defensive front.
In the playoffs Miller had four sacks (including two in the Super Bowl), six tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits. Though he’s moved onto Buffalo, the Rams would not have gotten to where they were without him.
At 92 Miller is tied for fourth among Madden’s EDGE ratings. This puts him above guys like Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa, and Danielle Hunter, which may seem pretty generous. Miller is coming off a 2021 where he had 9.5 sacks and 17 QB hits, though he also had 19 tackles for loss and 30 pressures.
With that said, Miller’s impact in the playoffs makes this more understandable, as he is still a dominant force on the edge. The six-year, $120 million contract he signed with the Bills has been controversial, but Miller hasn’t lost much of a step as he enters his age 33 season.
Overall, I think Miller might be a bit too high, but with his impact I also don’t have a strong case against him.
Tre’Davious White (93)
After missing the majority of 2021 with a torn ACL, star corner Tre’Davious White is back in the fold, and EA is giving him all the respect he can get.
White’s 93 Madden rating is third among corners, only behind Jalen Ramsey (98) and Jaire Alexander. His combination of lockdown coverage and ballhawk tendencies have made him an All-Pro in the past, and he is still fresh off a contract extension from the 2021 offseason.
I think the rating here is just right. Despite his injury I have a lot of confidence in White returning to superstar form. He’s above corners like Darius Slay and Denzel Ward, so there’s a lot of competition in his rearview mirror.
The Bills defense was already ranked first in fewest points allowed without White. I don’t expect them to hang onto that ranking in 2022 (defenses have a history of regression the following year), but with him healthy the structure of that unit should remain stable.
