This offseason, I was ready to fire Pete Carroll. The Seattle Seahawks have been in decline for a few years now. The dismantling of the Legion Of Boom was the beginning of the end. The dismantling of the roster was completed with the sudden release of Bobby Wagner and the Russell Wilson trade.
Pete Carroll is currently the oldest active NFL head coach. I indeed thought he was past his prime and had lost his touch. Additionally, his defenses had lost their edge and of course, the playcalling had gone stale. I was ready to fire Pete Carroll and bring in a breath of fresh air.
However, on Monday night, Pete Caroll showed me that he is still capable of coaching his butt off. The child-like enthusiasm was back. The offense got back to basics. The defense showed serious grit with three goal line stands that resulted in zero points for the Bronco’s offense.

Pete Caroll Works Best With Young Players
This game brought me back to 2012. This was before the Seahawks had won anything, but when they were on the come up with some good young players. Pete Carroll is great with young players. I forgot about that aspect of his coaching because recently the roster was predominantly made up of veterans.
Pete Carroll is a player’s coach. He’s not much of a disciplinarian. This works to his benefit with younger players that look up to him. However, with veterans that think they know better than the coach, things can go off the rails. For example, the toxicity that emerged in the locker room and the quasi-mutiny that happened after the 2015 Superbowl loss. Pete Carroll is not equipped to handle something like that and the team slowly deteriorated as a result.
Of course, now, the Seahawks have sort of hit the reset button on the roster. Pete has a lot of young football players that he can mold into shapes that he desires. I don’t expect the Seahawks to win much more this season, but I’m happy to see him get back to playing his style of football with a group of young players that are all on board.
