The Philadelphia Eagles got a steal when they drafted Jalen Carter ninth overall. Carter’s off-the-field issues and poor pro day caused teams to sour on the defensive tackle prospect. However, in the first week of rookie camp, Carter is showing what he can bring to a team. According to an Eagles insider, Jalen Carter broke a blocking sled during the first weekend of rookie camp.
Philadelphia Eagles Jalen Carter Breaks Blocking Sled
It is unclear exactly how broken the blocking sled is but Carter apparently was no match for the training tool. His raw power was one of the many reasons why many saw him as the best player overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. His natural strength makes him a problem for interior offensive linemen and helps open things up for the rest of the defensive line. Look at the impact Aaron Donald has had as a dominant interior lineman and that is what the Eagles are hoping they have in Carter.
Dominant Defense In 2023
The Eagles are hoping to have as dominant of a defense this year as last year. While they did not show it in the Super Bowl, the Eagles’ defense was really good last year. Carter joins Jordan Davis and veteran Fletcher Cox on the interior line along with many other stars throughout the defense. If Carter can become a contributor right away, the Eagles will be a problem again this year. It is always hard to repeat but Philadelphia has had the offseason that makes fans think it is possible. The NFC is weak and many teams are rebuilding so the path is there.
Jalen Carter to the Philadelphia Eagles might be the pick that people moan about midseason. “How did we let this happen?” will be coming out of other teams’ mouths if Carter dominates. The early returns look good. Breaking a sled is one thing. Moving an offensive lineman is another.
