The Philadelphia Eagles have found their new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore, though not all fans are high on the decision.
On Saturday, the Eagles decided to hire Moore as Brian Johnson’s replacement for the offensive coordinator role. Moore was the Los Angeles Chargers’ OC prior to the hiring, but he’s now leaving LA to join a Philly team with title aspirations.
Nick Sirianni remains as the Eagles’ head coach, but the franchise has moved on from both its coordinators and has since hired their replacements. For the defensive coordinator job, Vic Fangio is taking over following Sean Desai’s departure.
The decision to hire Moore is an interesting one, and it isn’t without merits. He was a crucial part in helping build a top-rated offense with the Dallas Cowboys from 2018 to 2022, working with Dak Prescott to establish the team as a dangerous offensive team.
With the Chargers, there were high hopes he could further elevate the offense led by Justin Herbert. Unfortunately, injuries stalled the progress of the team and they were never able to thrive.
With Jim Harbaugh coming in as the Chargers’ new head coach, everyone knew Moore’s time in LA was coming to an end as well. Hence, he was allowed to get interviews from other teams, including the Eagles.
Now that he’s with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kellen Moore gets the opportunity to work with another elite quarterback in Jalen Hurts. Sure enough, it will be intriguing to see how their partnership will pan out.
Philadelphia Eagles Fans Split on Kellen Moore OC Hire
While there is a lot of excitement on the Philadelphia Eagles’ hiring of Kellen Moore, not everyone were as stoked as the team. Considering the Los Angeles Chargers were a below average offensive team in 2023, the addition of Moore sparked some concerns.
“Fired Brian Johnson just to hire someone at the same level of incompetence… really tho?????” one critic commented on Adam Schefter’s report of the hiring.
“Lmao. Can’t wait to see how Eagles fans reacts the very first time a Moore coached Eagles offense struggles. Or there is a play or drive which doesn’t work out. Since they told Cowboys fans that Kellen Moore has earned immunity from ever being criticized as an OC,” a commenter added.
Another one said, “Well, the Eagles are not going to be good next season.”
As mentioned, others are more supportive of Philly’s move, with some even expressing their delight and analysis on how Moore can thrive with the Eagles.
“I think this is a way better fit for Kellen Moore than LAC ever was. His run game stuff fits PHIs roster super well, and it gives them a new direction to go in schematically in the event that Kelce does retire,” a fan noted.
A second supporter shared, “Kellen Moore is with a winning QB now Definitely don’t hate this, interested to see how he uses Smitty because Allen had what felt like a career revival under him.”
It remains to be seen if Moore will be able to succeed in Philly, but regardless of what the fans think about him, the Eagles are giving him a good chance to show what he can do. Hopefully, he can prove all the doubters wrong.
