Jason Kelce’s future with the Philadelphia Eagles remain a big question mark as retirement talks hover above his head. However, according to the latest reports, he might not only be the Eagle calling it a career.
The Eagles could end up losing two legends in one offseason if rumors are to be believed.
Another Philadelphia Eagles Star Retiring?
While there is still a chance for Kelce to return for another season in Philly, nothing is certain at the moment as the veteran center ponders on his options.
As the Eagles await Kelce’s decision, though, they might also need to have conversations with defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, who is reportedly weighing his retirement as well.
“ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last month that Eagles center Jason Kelce told teammates he is retiring, and I’ve talked to multiple sources who believe defensive tackle Fletcher Cox will probably retire at some point this offseason, too. Now, retirements are tricky — plans are malleable as players emerge from the haze of the season — but there’s a real possibility the Eagles will be replacing two legends at once,” Jeremy Fowler of ESPN wrote.
Cox has been a key member of the Eagles since 2012, and so potentially losing him will definitely hurt Philly. He’s an unrestricted free agent this offseason after signing a one-year deal last offseason, so it’s not really farfetched to see him hang it up for good.
With that being said, Kelce and Cox’s decisions on their respective careers are certainly something to monitor. If both end up retiring, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles replace them.
Fletcher Cox’s Philadelphia Eagles Career
The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Fletcher Cox out of Mississippi State with the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He has been with the team since then, even helping the franchise win the Super Bowl in the 2017 season against the New England Patriots.
Cox is a six-time Pro Bowler from 2015 to 2020. He made the First Team All-Pro once and the Second Team All-Pro three times. He’s also a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, which speaks volume of how much impact he has made on the Eagles.
If Cox indeed calls it a career this 2024 offseason, he would end his career with 121 games played, tallying 70.0 sacks, 351 solo tackles, 16 forced fumbles, 88 tackles for loss and 173 QB hits.
