The Philadelphia Eagles were primed to go all the way and win the title last season after their blistering 10-1 start to the campaign. It all came crashing down for them after that, though, as they lost seven of their last eight games, including a heartbreaking Wild Card Round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the postseason.
Through it all, star quarterback Jalen Hurts received a ton of criticism. The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback was the center of attention during Philly’s strong run, so to a certain extent, it was only right that he was also placed under a microscope as the Eagles crashed and burned.
Philadelphia Eagles Coach Nick Sirianni’s Strong Message for Jalen Hurts
Despite a rocky 2023 campaign, however, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has not lost a single ounce of confidence in the team’s cornerstone QB. In fact, the Philadelphia shot-caller recently came out with an unequivocal statement pushing a Hurts comeback narrative next season:
“Here’s what I know about Jalen, whatever we see that he needs to work on or he sees that he needs to work on, he’s going to get better at that because he puts everything he has into it, and that’s a form of leadership too,” Sirianni said, via Josh Alper of PFT. “Like Jalen sees something that he feels is a weakness of his or we feel like is a weakness of his, he’s going to dive everything that he has and pour everything that he has into it to get better from that. Like that’s leadership. That’s a form of leadership. I’ll keep some of the things we all talked about, what I need to get better at, what he needs to get better at, to ourselves. But I know this, that he’ll put everything he has into getting better as a football player, being better as a quarterback so we can win more games as a team.”
I see no lies here.
Hurts did not get to where he is today without hard work and sacrifice. The 25-year-old has also been adversity in the past, but as Sirianni so passionately argued, he has no doubt in his mind that Hurts will be able to bounce back.
There’s no denying that Hurts — and the rest of the Eagles, for that matter — will be playing with a chip on their shoulder this coming season. The rest of the league better be ready for what’s to come.
