The Miami Dolphins certainly got themselves a gem in De’Von Achane after he had a superb debut campaign, which is great since his fellow rookie teammates didn’t make much of an impact in 2023.
Because of his breakout year, many believe that the Texas A&M product is just getting started, including the PFF, who listed him as one of the top names to look for next season.
“There’s an argument to be made that Achane’s rookie season was a breakout after posting over 800 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns,” wrote Jonathon Macri. “A larger workload and a full season could equal a true breakout season for the 2023 third-round pick.”
De’Von Achane’s rookie campaign with the Miami Dolphins
De’Von Achane is praised mainly for his efficiency during his rookie NFL campaign. In the 11 regular-season games that he played, he managed to register 800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns for a historic 7.8 yards per carry. While the numbers in itself are great, the fact that he was playing behind Raheem Mostert and did this in only four starts on just 119 offensive snaps makes it even more impressive.
With his help, the Miami Dolphins made it to the NFL playoffs by finishing second in the AFC East with an 11-6 record, but they were eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round via a 26-7 blowout.
Unfortunately for Achane, the rookie running back dealt with injuries along the way. He was placed in the team’s IR last October, which robbed him of more offensive snaps and chances to show what he’s got.
Miami Dolphins have a potent one-two RB combo
The Miami Dolphins now have two running backs that they can depend on in De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert. In 2023, Mostert recorded 1,012 rushing yards and a career-best 18 touchdowns for 4.8 yards per carry.
But while Raheem Mostert is still effective at his role, he could use a lighter workload moving forward since he’ll turn 32 years old in April, and this is where someone like De’Von Achane comes in.
