The Kansas City Chiefs are an incredible team and quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with an ankle injury. It is unclear at this moment if Mahomes will play in the second half of this game or if the Chiefs are going to proceed with caution.
With less than 30 seconds remaining in the first half with a 31-0 lead against the Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had his right ankle rolled up and he had a noticeable limp. The injury occurred when defensive end Dominique Robinson hit into the back of Mahomes’ leg.

Mahomes managed to stay in the game and set up the field goal try before halftime but his limp continued and did not look too pleased with the situation at large. It is important to note he dealt with the same injury heading into last year’s Super Bowl and returned in the second half and led the Chiefs to a win. Mahomes did start the second half of the game and seemed to be looking better but that could a case of adrenaline.
Heading into the halftime break, Mahomes was 20-of-27 for 221 yards with a pair of touchdown passes while also running three times for 28 yards.
What would Patrick Mahomes missing time mean for the Kansas City Chiefs?
Just like most injuries, this would depend on how long the injury would keep Patrick Mahomes out of action. Blaine Gabbert is the backup quarterback for the team and could struggle a bit as the starter. If it was for two to four weeks, that would not cripple this team as if they are 2-1 after the game against the Chicago Bears, they would at worst be tied for first with the Las Vegas Raiders after tonight.
Kansas City should be able to survive a short-term injury as their next three games are against the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos and they should win at least two of those games.
The Chiefs have a bevy of talent on their roster and with the injuries surrounding top-level quarterbacks this season, they may decide to proceed with caution here. They have the talent to win games even if he is out for a few weeks.
