Not much has gone right for the Chicago Bears and Matt Eberflus in 2023. After getting shellacked in week 1 by the rival Packers, the team lost a close one to the Buccaneers. It isn’t just that the team is 0-2. The offense still looks disjointed and the defense can be cut through like butter. There are growing shouts from fans for big changes to happen. Eberflus had an urgent plea for the fans on Monday.
Chicago Bears Matt Eberflus Pleas For Patience
Eberflus wants the fans to rally behind the team instead of bashing everyone. “Have the belief… We’re working our tails off to get this thing done,” Eberflus said in a press conference. I have no doubt that the team is working their tails off. Week 2 saw some improvement from week 1. DJ Moore was more involved in the offense and the defense also played better at times. Holding an NFL team to 20 points (I’m not counting the pick-6 as that isn’t the fault of the defense) is good. The issue is that fans have been patient for years and the patience is running thin.
Patience Is Running Thin
Justin Fields is in his third year as the starter. Throughout the offseason, the Bears preached that this was finally the year that they had some talent on the team. They spent big on free agents. They got a massive haul for the first overall pick. While a Super Bowl wasn’t going to happen, fans would be okay with steady improvement. 2023 looks the same as 2022. That is the frustration of the fanbase. It is the same problems as before and that is what fans are upset about.
How long will the Bears stick with Matt Eberflus? Many are calling for his removal and he has to show improvement fast. It won’t be easy as they go on the road to play Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes.
