Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce made an appearance on the Pat McAfee show on Wednesday to say that he is past his knee injury that held him back from playing in the season-opener.
“I’m not even thinking about it anymore, we’re past that,” Kelce said. “I felt like an absolute idiot not being able to be out there for my team.”
“The knee is 100% and I’m not even thinking about it anymore..

Two days prior to the Chiefs’ 21-20 loss to the Detroit Lions, Kelce suffered a bone bruise/hyperextension in his knee. He missed that game, but was able to play in week 2 where he caught four receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown in the 17-9 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He additionally had some penalties, flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct, and then another for unnecessary roughness. Kelce was not flagged for his punt after scoring his first touchdown of the season, however.
Kelce hasn’t missed a game since 2013 where he underwent microfracture surgery that put him out for the season. The tight end has even played through a rib injury, ankle sprain, dealt with some shoulder issues, resulting in surgery, and had knee soreness in the 2020 playoffs. Ever since, he’s played in every game, minus a few here and there to be well-rested for playoff runs.
Having Kelce healthy is crucial for the Chiefs, and it was evident in their season-opener when they were without him; No Chiefs had more than three receptions on the night.
Travis Kelce to Play in Week 3
Even amidst the Taylor Swift dating rumors, the star tight end was a full participation in practice on Wednesday ahead of the Chiefs’ upcoming home-opener against the Chicago Bears (0-2) on Sunday.
It’s been a slow start for Kelce; He’s coming off of a career year where he put up 110 receptions for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns – both which were career highs for the tight end. These numbers also helped him earn his fourth First Team All-Pro and win a second Super Bowl title.
