Oklahoma football is amid a rude awakening in their first season among the SEC ranks. Following a 3-0 start to the season, the Oklahoma Sooners have dropped five of their previous seven games, with their wins coming against a six-loss Auburn Tigers squad and the Maine Black Bears of the FCS. During that run, OU went from being ranked to fighting for bowl eligibility, especially after their most recent loss against former Big 12 foe Missouri. Missouri and Oklahoma competed in the Big 12 for over a century before the former darted for the SEC in 2012. The Sooners followed suit in 2024, rekindling an age-old rivalry.
On Saturday, Oklahoma football fought tooth and nail against the Missouri Tigers before a last-second fumble from quarterback Jackson Arnold led to a scoop and score from Mizzou defensive lineman Zion Young. Following the game, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz took a shot at former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops, calling him out by name and emphasizing that the Tigers do not “always lose” to the Sooners. On Monday, Stoops responded to Drinkwitz’s comments.
Ex-Oklahoma Football HC Bob Stoops Replies to Eli Drinkwitz

According to Bob Stoops through The REF on Twitter:
“Someone showed it to me yesterday, and I started laughing. I’ve been retired for eight years, and I am still prominent on people’s minds.
Keep following me on Twitter, I guess. You know what Toby always said, ‘Haters even make you money.'”
Bob Stoops said he chuckled when he heard Eli Drinkwitz mentioned him in the postgame press conference.
When asked if he had any other reaction than chuckling, Stoops said:
“Not a bit. I guess, keep following me on Twitter, I guess.” pic.twitter.com/0g1UGiqJJX

Bob Stoops is unbothered by comments made by Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz. Last season’s SEC Coach of the Year, Drinkwitz, called out Stoops in a postgame interview after the latter stirred the pot this offseason regarding the renewal of their year-long rivalry. Despite OU losing dramatically in the first SEC rendition of the rivalry, Stoops did not bother to clap back at Drinkwitz on Monday. With the loss, Oklahoma football moved to 5-5, while Missouri kept their College Football Playoff hopes alive, moving to 7-2.
Stoops coached the Oklahoma Sooners from 1999 to 2016, winning the BCS national championship in 2000. He went 8-1 against the Missouri Tigers, with OU’s lone loss coming in 2010. Meanwhile, Drinkwitz moves to 1-0 against the Sooners, besting current Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables.
