Oklahoma football has had a tough inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference. However, the 4-4 Oklahoma Sooners hosted the Maine Black Bears of the FCS Coastal Athletic Association to make good on an SEC tradition of playing inferior competition late in the year. Despite Maine opening the contest by forcing a punt and then executing a nine-play touchdown drive, Oklahoma won convincingly, 59-14, as a 37-point favorite. The Sooners posted 665 yards of offense in the blowout win.
More notably, with Oklahoma riding a three-game losing streak and playing Maine in the early slate, the scene in Norman, Oklahoma, looked bare before kickoff. One prominent Oklahoma football reporter shared photos of the stadium an hour before game time, with the stands largely absent of fans.
Oklahoma Football Stadium Vacant of Fans Pregame

According to 247Sports Oklahoma Sooners reporter Josh Callaway:
There are obviously *a lot* of factors making it this way, but I’ve never seen the stadium this empty an hour before the kick. The vibe is so weird in Norman today.
On Saturday, the struggling Oklahoma football team hosted the Maine Black Bears as more than a five-touchdown favorite. With an early kickoff and OU riding a three-game losing streak, Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium sat largely vacant before kickoff. However, Callaway shared that fans started to fill in closer to game time but noted that the student section again struggled to emerge.
Following a punt and Maine touchdown, Oklahoma football scored 52 unanswered points, led by a standout performance from running back Jovantae Barnes. The six-foot rusher tallied 18 carries for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Fellow running back Taylor Tatum and quarterback Jackson Arnold also combined for 93 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. At 5-4, Oklahoma will travel to Missouri next weekend as they fight to reach bowl eligibility.
